  • Servings: 4 people
  • Estimated Cost: $10

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (warm)
  • 5 teaspoons of active dry yeast/instant yeast
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ melted unsalted butter
  • Coconut oil spray

For The Glaze

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp hot water

Instructions

  1. Stir lukewarm milk, active yeast and 1 tsp sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with dough hook. Let rest for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add two cups of flour, salt, eggs, sugar, and melted butter to the milk mixture. Then mix until combined, low speed preferred. With the mixer running, add the remaining flour slowly. When the dough no longer sticks to the bowl, increase speed and knead for five minutes until your dough is elastic and very smooth.
  3. Let the dough proof for 1 hour in a greased bowl covered with a plastic wrap.
  4. Place the dough on to a floured surface, roll it out to about ½” thickness. Cut 10-12 donuts – 3-inch round donuts, and a 1-inch round hole at the center.
  5. Place the donuts and donut holes on to a parchment paper and cover with an oiled plastic wrap, let them rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees for 5 minutes. Spray the frying basket with oil spray and arrange the donuts and donut holes in a single layer in the air fryer basket, and spray them with the coconut oil. Bake for 6 minutes.
  7. While the donuts are cooking, melt butter in a saucepan at medium heat. Mix melted butter with powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Remove from heat and mix/stir in hot water, one tbsp at time until thin.
  8. When donuts and donut holes are done, dip them when hot in the glaze using a folk, and place them on a wire rack. Let rest for 8-10 minutes until glaze hardens.

Recipe Note:

  • Make sure the milk is not hotter than 105 degrees F. Hotter than that will kill the yeast.
  • If no activity after resting milk and yeast mixture for 10 minutes, it’s either your yeast was inactive or milk was too hot and killed the yeast.
  • Cook in batches if your air fryer basket can’t cook all the donuts and donut holes at once.
